The Unity Sand Set:
A wedding ceremony symbolizes the commitment to work through life together - for better or worse, for richer or poorer. In a moment, two people’s lives become one and also two extended families. This is a particularly special time when children are involved, as they too are greatly influenced by the joining of two families.
Read MoreA great way to honor children or other family members is to involve them in a unity sand ceremony. Sand ceremonies are performed by pouring different colors of sand into a vase, often preceded with an explanation of its meaning by the wedding officiate. As the sand pours, a unique blending effect occurs as the colors layer and blend with each other. The officiate will often conclude the unity sand ceremony with something like this: “Just as the mixed sand can never again be separated, neither can the lives of these two people.”
A variety of vase styles and sand colors are available for unity sand ceremonies. Many couples choose to use their favorite colors while others match the color theme of their wedding decorations. For religious wedding ceremonies, it is common for the center, main vase to have white sand at the bottom that symbolizes their faith as the foundation of their marriage.
To prepare for the ceremony you will need one large vase and a smaller vase for each person participating. A great way to personalize this symbol of unity is to have the bride and groom’s monogram and wedding date engraved onto the ceremony vase. You may select as many colors of sand as you would like, but choosing contrasting colors will allow for the most decorative results. After the ceremony, the vase is often moved to the cake table as a perfect complement to the wedding cake display.
The best advice you can possibly hear regarding a sand ceremony is to practice at least one time before the actual wedding day. The best way is to fill the large vase to where you want with regular, uncolored sand. Then divide that sand between however many smaller vases will be used among the participants. Allow each person to practice pouring the sand into the larger vase in the right order and be sure to time how long it will all take.
If you are having an outdoor ceremony, it’s important to understand that wind can affect wedding decorations and make the pouring process difficult and messy, so you may have to alter the direction you approach the sand ceremony table depending on the direction of the wind. This is typically not an issue as switching the side of the table you stand on is a simple change. While the ceremony can be shared between just the bride and groom, it can also include as many family members and colors as you would like. Always keep in mind that this is your wedding, and while there are many wedding decoration trends, you should never be limited by rules or boundaries from having the ceremony you want.
The unity sand ceremony is a beautiful and unique alternative to the traditional candle ceremony. While your guests enjoy witnessing the union of two lives, all will be amazed watching how beautifully the colors blend. The result is a beautiful and unique wedding keepsake to display in your home for years. Many display their sand ceremony vase next to their wedding cake topper as a reminder of their special day.
Wedding Collections, a complete set of elegance.
In the grand tradition of weddings, as far back as anyone can remember, several rituals have been used to highlight the union ceremony. These rituals make use of accessories such as Flower Baskets, Ring Pillows, Sand Ceremony Nesting Vases, Unity Candles and the Jewish Glass Breaking Pouch. Many of these wedding rituals are used to represent sentiments that are very romantic and meaningful.

The bride follows the flower path to her groom, symbolizing that new love is about to bloom thus entering the next chapter of their lives. Flower baskets may be selected to reflect the wedding colors and or theme.
The ring pillow is a sweet and delicate way of presenting the rings of the bride and groom when they are ready to be exchanged. As well, wedding pillows now are chosen based on the wedding colors and or theme.
The Sand Unity Ceremony has become a very popular ritual in the modern wedding ceremony. With the addition of coordinating Miniature Nesting Vases and contrasting colors of sand, every member of the family can be invited to participate. The mixing of the various sand colors is a fitting way to symbolize the new Blended Family that will result from this union. Although there are no set guidelines for this ceremony, generally the sand is poured into the central vase in this order: the Father, the Mother, Children, then Father and Mother together.
The purpose of the Unity Candle is to symbolize the harmony in union the newlyweds will share in the new chapter they are about to embark. In essence, the Unity Candle stands to represent the couples” happily ever after. Unity candles can be personalized with the names and date of the wedding or selected to coordinate with the overall theme of the day.
In traditional Jewish Ceremonies, near the conclusion of service, it is customary that the groom proceeds to shatter a glass with his foot resulting in "Many Pieces, Many Years, and Many Blessings Together..." for the happy couple. The glass is contained in a decorative pouch and placed on the floor. Attendees respond with an enthusiastic "Mazel Tov" once the glass is smashed.
A fairly new and sweet concept that is being introduced in modern day weddings is the Love Letter Ceremony. This involves the bride and groom sealing love letters they have written to each other and locking them into a box along with a bottle of wine, two wine goblets and other memorabilia or mementos they have selected. Once the contents are in place, the box is locked with a key to symbolize the vows of love and commitment the couple have made to one another. The idea behind the Love Letter Ceremony Box Set is that the couple opens the box on the occasion of a predetermined wedding anniversary or milestone in their marriage. The couple can then partake in the wine and read the love letters they have written to one another.
These days, traditional does not mean boring. Beautiful accessories can be used to ensure the wedding ceremony is a celebration of personal style, even if it contains rituals that date back many years.

Custom Cake Toppers... as unique as the couples they represent!
Remember the day when a traditional cake topper meant a bride side-by-side with her groom solemnly adorning the traditional fruitcake? Back then, the best you could hope for, in terms of expressing your individuality, was to find a ceramic couple whose hair were the same colors as yours and your intended’s.

Our lead product designer and artist, Michelle, will closely work with you to create the personalized cake topper you have in mind. Because the customization of our toppers is so affordable, it's a sensible decision to get that extra "Wow!" at your wedding, and create a personalized memory for a lifetime.
Here are some great ideas for adding a more personal touch to your wedding cake by way of topper:
Tap into your shared interests as a couple:
There are many personalized wedding cake toppers available with themes that can display a common interest that you have as a couple. Some examples of the many themed wedding cake toppers out there include skiing, baseball, football, hockey, fishing, golf, soccer, cell phones and more!
Share how you met:
Many couples have a romantic, silly or fun story of how they met. Maybe you met at a baseball game or at a Western bar? Why not use a baseball themed or western themed wedding cake topper? Did you meet at the beach? Choose a barefoot couple lounging on the sand. There is a wide range of wedding cake toppers that cater to many different scenarios.
Embrace your Heritage:
We’re not all blonde haired and blue eyed, so why should your cake topper look that way? Many fashionable and culturally diverse brides and grooms are now available for wedding cake toppers to depict you and your husband or wife exactly the way you want to be portrayed.
Comical or Novelty Wedding Cake Toppers:
Weddings don’t have to be totally seriousness. Liven up your wedding cake with a comical cake topper that pokes fun at yourselves. Obsessed with technology? Go with a couple talking on cell phones! Were you dating a long time before the wedding? Choose a funny cake topper with the bride dragging the groom to the altar. Whatever you choose, remember it’s all in good fun!
Mix and Match:
Not every couple is exactly alike. Wedding cake toppers sold as a couple generally are not suitable for most couples. With mix and match figurines you customize the look of your wedding cake topper to create a custom pairing that reflects your unique ethnic blend or pairing. Some options for you to create include curvy brides or burly grooms, multi-racial couples or same-sex unions.
Non-Traditional:
Traditional cake toppers aren’t always suitable for every wedding. Some couples tying the knot choose an expecting bride figurine, and many more brides are opting for non-traditional wedding cake toppers that aren’t even people at all. You could use a monogram topper with the first initials of the bride and groom’s names, or just one letter for their newly shared last name. Many cake toppers also feature animal couples such as a pair of doves. Or you could go for a modern sculpture to top your cake.
Let them eat cake…or not:
Wedding cake toppers aren’t just for cakes. They can go on top of cupcake towers, serve as the perfect decoration for your guestbook table, or make a great wedding gift to the happy couple! Regardless of where your wedding cake topper goes, it will be sure to infuse your special day with distinctive personality, and serve as a wonderful memento of your wedding for many years to come.
Table Decor, settings to impress and awe!
When most people think of table decorations, they think of beautiful flower-filled vases or stunning greenery that adds a fresh and beautiful style to the table. It's a wonderful image, and often it looks just as beautiful as expected.
Read MoreHowever, we at CouplesOnCakes.com would like to challenge you to think of some new alternatives. Imagine, if you will, centerpieces without flowers - or at the very least, table settings in which the flowers are not the focus.
Though flower-filled centerpieces are a common sight at weddings, they are not the only option available. In fact, flower-less centerpieces can be more striking and memorable than their more common alternatives.
Additionally, there are a number of advantages to creating table settings without flowers.
The first being the all important decrease in costs. Flowers are expensive, and by cutting down on the amount that you are purchasing, you can free up a portion of your budget. Then of course there is the minor detail of allergies – less flowers means there will be less of a chance that your guests will be stuffed up and uncomfortable during the reception.
An additional use for the table is to incorporate your favors into them! This will eliminate the added clutter of favors to the table setting, or the need to have a separate location for the favors to be located. Not all centerpieces need to be identical, variations in height, color and placement can improve the overall appearance of the decor. Centerpieces are meant to be the main focus of your table, but they can be so much more than a piece of decor that simply sits there and looks pretty! They are also great conversation starters as they can be ice-breakers for your guests who may not know each other.
When it comes to planning table decorations, the first detail you are going to want to take into consideration is the theme of your wedding. If your theme is something specific and more than just a color choice, you can use your centerpieces as the culmination of your theme.
Unlike with other aspects of decor, it is easier to go overboard on your centerpieces without decreasing the charm of the event. If you were to be hosting, for example, a Star Wars themed wedding – Star Wars print table cloths might be taking it a bit far – fans you might be, but tacky is never a good plan for a wedding. However, artistic centerpieces with original Star Wars action figures worked into the design, could be made to work. How much better does this sound?
Light can be also be included in your centerpieces to add that oh-so-chic glow to the tabletop without the glaring lights shining down on you from above. Candles will add romance to the atmosphere while twinkle lights can make it more festive. Luminaries will give off a subtle glow that brings an extra dimension to the centerpiece.
Of course the final decisions must be all yours, however if you are uncertain what you want, the following questions may help you determine your personal taste.
Ask yourself...
Do I want elaborate or simple centerpieces?
Should they be short or tall? Tip: Keep in mind that centerpieces should be higher or lower than eye level. They should not block the view or discourage table conversation!
Do I want them themed or more generic?
What is the most important detail I want to include in the centerpieces?
Good luck with your planning, and remember – vases can hold so much more than just water and flowers!
